My Rustic Garden

My Rustic Garden came fourth in the Spoonflower Garden Tools contest last week and I am so happy with how it printed. Spoonflower did a wonderful job of photographing the fabrics from the top ten. There were so many amazing designs, it has really inspired me to get out in the garden and start doing some work.

Botanic Gardens

After the visit to the museum this week we went to visit the Botanic Gardens with my
Aunt Gerrie.

There are so many beautiful structural features to the plants.

Gerrie and the boys looking at the blue water lily.

The wisteria arbour.

The rotunda, inside and out.

The boys always love sliding down the staircase of the old glass house.
We had a wonderful day!

Japanese Cameo Blue Cushions

I have been making some patchwork cushions with the Japanese Cameo Blue Fabrics. I'm going to try a quilt next.

A Day At The Museum

After going to the museum this week I decided to make this little collection from a while back for sale in my Spoonflower shop.

The Museum

Yesterday we took the bus to the city and visited the museum.

There was a great school holiday program called Fossil Fest and the children got to speak to a palaeontologist and find 20 million year old fish fragments under a microscope as well as make clay moulds of fossils. Actually there were kids everywhere.

There were many interactive displays which they enjoyed, the one above had images of beautiful butterfly eggs and butterflies. The shields below was another of their favourite displays.

There are large drawers around the museum which slide out vertically and horizontally to reveal preserved insects and sea creatures, eggs and skeletons. The kids love it! You also get a sense of exploring while moving through the winding galleries and numerous stair wells.

As a child I loved the Egyptian room and I think it is one of the only areas that looks like it has not changed in the last 30 years. In fact it looks like it hasn't changed from the 1930's with vintage lino on the floor and some beautiful looking hand written plaques. The walls have hand painted murals and there are displays of different items including mummies. The boys actually found these a bit spooky.

Fabulous Finds

Last weekend I went to a book sale and picked up these great vintage books with lovely illustrations.

The copy of Jo's boys is for my Mum.

Retro Cups

I was cleaning out a few cupboards the other day and I found a few of my favourite retro cups.

The one on the top left and below left I picked up at the local market from a lady who was cleaning out her caravan, I got some great plastic cups and plates as well. The little lavender tulip cup was given to me when I was about seven from my Great Aunt Edna and the other cups originally belonged to my grandmother.

Girl's Elephant Bag

A closer look at the bags I made for the fair last week. The one with the pink ruffle has gone to a very happy little customer. All the fabric is from A Tale of Two Elephants collection in my Spoonflower shop.

The cubby house comes in very handy to display different things and there was a curious little bird watching from a nearby branch.

Jane Austen Novel Fabric Contest

So happy to come second last week in the Spoonflower Jane Austen novel fabric contest. There were some really beautiful entries and Spoonflower now do a fabric package of the top ten designs.

Fabulous Finds

I recently acquired these glass dishes and pie dish from a local op shop. Love the orange and yellow fruit.

It just happened that Mum found this glass jar for me at the same time. Thanks Mum!
